The town was constituted as 3rd Grade Municipality vide G.O.Ms.No. 519, MA, dt. 23.09.1986. The town population as per 2011 Census is 33732 and the extent of the town is 10.09 Sq.Kms. The Municipality has been divided in to 24 wards. There are 29 Notified Slums and 0Non-Notified Slums.
