HORTICULTURE & SERICULTURE

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES:

The Bhadradri Kothagudem District is one of the Major potential district for Horticulture and Sericulture development in Telangana State and endowed with good Agro-climatic conditions for cultivation of all varieties of Horticulture crops, Oil palm & Sericulture.

1. Implementation of various Horticulture & Sericulture schemes in the district
2. Suggesting of best agronomic and plant protection measures for improving the productivity of crops.
3. Providing of technical assistance to farmers to getting sustainable income.
4. Motivating farmers for adoption of drip irrigation and Organic practices in Horticultural & Sericulture crops.
5. Impart training to farmers in cultivation and Marketing of Horticultural & Sericulture crops.
6. Promote production of quality plant material and supply to growers.
7. At present an area of 81,405 Acres is existing under Horticulture crops including Oilpalm and Sericulture.

SCHEMES INFORMATION:

TELANGANA STATE MICRO IRRIGATION PROJECT (TSMIP)

• To irrigate the area with less water(Eg., One acre water is sufficient for 5 acres)
• High yields by saving Electricity, Labour and fertilizers.
• To provide holistic growth of the horticulture sector through an area based regionally differentiated strategies which include research, technology promotion, extension based on the agro climate conditions.
• The major activities under the programme are Area Expansion,Mulching, Organic farming, HumanResource Development

NATIONAL MISSION ON EDIBLE OILS –OILPALM (NMEO-OP)

• It is to submit that, for encouragement of Oil Palm crop, the area expansion of Oil Palm Cultivation assistance and other relevant schemes are being implementing for doubling the farmers income.
• The total area under Oilpalm is 50,229 Acres (Largest area in Telangana State).
• Having two processing units at Aswaraopeta and Apparaopeta.
• Creating awareness among the farmers for crop diversification with Oilpalm crop for getting net income of Rs.1 lakh per Acre.
• In Oil Palm plantation for first 3 to 4 years encouraging inter crops like Vegetables, Ground nut, Sesamum, Sun Flower, Saff flower, Pulses,  Dragon  fruit, Banana, Papaya, Fodder crops, Ornamental plants, Ginger, Turmeric 
• After 6 years of Oilpam plantation encouraging inter crops like Cocoa, Arecanut, Nutmeg, Pine apple etc.,
• During first year / at the time of planting of Oilpalm, suitable border agroforestry crops are Tissue culture Teak, Sandalwood and Casuarina.
• The department is creating and organizing meetings, training, exposure visits & demonstration plots with new varieties (Dwarf) by the cultivation of vegetables, pulses, oilseeds etc., for getting additional income to the farmers towards stepping to doubling of the farmer income.
• Encouraging Micro Irrigation Scheme to Oil palm crops and other Horticulture and Sericulture crops for increasing of productivity with good quality by saving water, power & labour.
• To provide nutritional Security by providing oil to everyone.

• Increasing farmer income by cultivating this oil palm crop which is having marketing and processing facilities with MSP  SERICULTURE:

Sericulture is agro-based cottage industry with low investments and high returns for the upliftment of economic status of rural poor families.

AGRO-FORESTRY:

BAMBOO & SANDALWOOD:

• To increase greenery, carbon, sequestration, and organic matter.
• To provide additional income to the farmer and natural Fencing.
